The most unsecure but easiest way to setup NFS

NFS (Network File System) allow user to share files between computers. The way I am going to setup is the simplest, but no security at all. You are warned!!!
The system I am using is Xubuntu 12.10, however, should be fine with older Ubuntu or other distributions.

<—– Server Side —–>

1) Server side : Install the required software:

sudo apt-get install nfs-kernel-server

2) Server side : Define which folder to share, e.g.: /home/my_share_folder

2.1) edit the follwing file:
sudo vim /etc/exports

2.2) Server side : add the following line:

2.3) Server side : start the service:
sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server restart

<—– Client Side —–>

1) Client side : Instal required softwre:

sudo apt-get install nfs-common

2) Client side : Check what the server is sharing:

showmount -e

3) Client side : Mount the remote folder

3.1) To mount folder by fstab:

3.1.1) Create mount point:
sudo mkdir /mnt/folder

3.1.2) Edit fstab:
sudo vim /etc/fstab To mount automatically, add line:
server_IP:/home/my_share_folder /mnt/folder nfs auto,rw 0 0 To mount manually, add line:
server_IP:/home/my_share_folder /mnt/folder nfs noauto,user,rw 0 0 Then when you want to mount:
mount /mnt/folder
